The concentration can be<br \/>\nmonitored on a day to day basis using a<br \/>\nrefractometer and the Fluid Concentration Chart.<br \/>\nMore accurate values can be obtained using<br \/>\nlaboratory titration methods. W hen<br \/>\nmixing by hand slowly add concentrate to water<br \/>\nwhilst stirring vigorously. Coolants should not be<br \/>\nmixed in the machine sump. Avoid using chilled<br \/>\nwater.<br \/>\n<strong>Top Up<\/strong><br \/>\nCoolant concentration may increase in use due to<br \/>\nwater evaporation. To maintain the<br \/>\nrecommended concentration, top up should be<br \/>\nmade with a more dilute concentration and not by<br \/>\nwater alone.<br \/>\nW ater Quality<br \/>\nCoolant performance can be affected by extremes of water<br \/>\nquality. Hard water (in excess of 300 ppm CaCO3) and high<br \/>\nlevels of chlorides and sulphates can reduce the stability of<br \/>\nemulsions and reduce corrosion protection. Your Houghton<br \/>\nRepresentative can advise on local water quality.<br \/>\n<strong>Contamination<\/strong><br \/>\nWhere possible avoid contamination from foreign matter and<br \/>\nother fluids. Remove swarf and tramp oil from the machine<br \/>\nsumps frequently.<br \/>\n<strong>Disposal<\/strong><br \/>\nDiscarded metal working coolants may be removed by a<br \/>\ncompetent waste contractor. Alternatively, the product may<br \/>\nbe treated by conventional oil separation and effluent<br \/>\ndisposal methods. Specific advice is available on request.<br \/>\nProduct concentrate or diluted fluid should not be introduced<br \/>\ninto waterways. It is advisable to consult the Local Water<br \/>\nAuthority regarding disposal.<br \/>\n<strong>Storage<\/strong><br \/>\nMetal working coolants should be stored indoors in clean, dry<br \/>\nconditions. Protect from frost. Recommended storage<br \/>\ntemperature is between 5\u00baC and 35\u00baC. If temporarily stored<br \/>\noutdoors, do not place drums upright.
